It was a frantic and busy final day of the transfer window, teams across Europe moved to find the final pieces of their puzzles for this season and they were hits and misses like Chelsea missing out on Edson Alvarez of Ajax whom they were pretty keen on to bolster their midfield options. Another team secured players whose signatures they had been chasing for weeks. Bet Central compiles the 5 transfers that stood out from the final 24 hours of the recently shut window.
Carlos Soler (Valencia to PSG)
Carlos Soler secured a move to PSG as their final signing of the window and will look to make an impact in a very congested midfield with the Paris club bringing in 3 midfielders before him. While this may seem like a lot of players to bring in, it is worth noting PSG haVE lost Gana Gueye, Ander Herrera, and Leandro Paredes leaving the central midfield cupboard quite bare.
The Spanish international comes in to address what has been PSG’s soft underbelly for years, a midfield lacking the necessary creativity to bring out the best of their lethal front 3. Soler is a technician with great feet. He had one of the purest strikes in La Liga, whether it be from close or long range. He had 20 goal contributions last season, without a doubt an astute signing by PSG.
Idrissa Gana Gueye (PSG to Everton)
As Soler enters, Idrissa Gana Gueye makes his exit and returns to Everton where he is much beloved from his 1st stint at the club. Unfortunately for Gueye, the move to PSG did not work out, not through any fault of his, it is just apparent the French powerhouse needs a different type of midfielder to elevate to the next level.
Everton, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, will be hoping the signing of the defensive midfielder is the shot in the arm they need to perform better. Criminally underrated at a point in the Premier League. This time around many will be aware of his quality and what he can do for Everton as they look to rebuild.
Hector Bellerin (Arsenal to Barcelona)
Like Gueye, the Spanish right back returns to a club whose colours he once wore. Unlike the Senegalese midfielder, it was not for the senior side, in Hector Bellerin’s case he donned the Catalans’ colours in the famed La Masia setup. A move has been on the cards for several seasons as the 27-year-old tried to engineer a move back to his native Spain.
After terminating his contract with Arsenal by mutual consent, Bellerin will finally return to the club he left as a 16-year-old. With a pacy and technically-gifted fullback, Barcelona have gained a valuable player.
A long-time target of new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman finally got his man on deadline day – a player he rates highly and worked with at Ajax. The 22-year-old Brazilian comes into the club with plenty of fanfare as it is notable that every player ten Hag has brought in has had a positive impact on United.
Antony (AFC Ajax to Man United)
It is for this reason that everyone is excited about what Antony’s arrival can bring. The winger is an exciting talent, he has magical feet and is hard to stop one on one. He is also a great passer and will undoubtedly create a lot of opportunities from out wide for United. There is optimism around his arrival and hopefully, he will live up to the hype.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Barcelona to Chelsea)
Having been a Premier League player as recently as January, there are no doubts about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s ability to cope with the demands of English football’s top tier. The Gabonese striker returns to London after a 6 month stay in La Liga where he helped turn Barcelona’s season around. He returns to his former club Arsenal’s bitter rivals, Chelsea.
Much like the hopes that rest on fellow African Gueye’s shoulders at Everton, Chelsea will also be hoping that Aubameyang sharps a Chelsea attack that has looked blunt for a while now and bring them out of their early-season blues. It will do him no harm being under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel who once brought the best out of a young Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund. This is a great bit of business by Chelsea as Auba is a proven goalscorer.
